Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region Names New Regional President
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 26, 2012 - Sacramento-James Conforti, the Chief Executive Officer of Sutter Health’s Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, has been named Regional President for the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region. Conforti replaces Sarah Krevans who was named Chief Operating Officer for the Sacramento-based, not-for-profit health care network effective January 1.
Conforti will oversee the operations of Sutter Health’s Sacramento Sierra Region, comprised of hospitals and physician care centers located throughout nine Northern California counties that rivals in size many American health care systems. The Sacramento Sierra Region is one of five regions making up the Sutter Health network of care, Northern California’s largest community-based, not-for-profit system of hospitals, physician organizations and home health and occupational health providers.
Conforti will start in his new role in late March. With significant experience in the ambulatory and acute care environments, and previous experience in strategic planning and business development, Conforti brings a depth of expertise that aligns very closely with the Sacramento Sierra Region’s integrated approach.
“We are proud to appoint James Conforti as Regional President for Sacramento Sierra Region,” said Richard Kramer, chair of the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region Board of Directors. “His vision and proven leadership will help us provide the safest, highest quality, most accessible care and an incredible patient experience. We look forward to his leadership, which will undoubtedly create a lasting, positive impact on our patient communities.”
The changes in local Sutter Health leadership come as Sutter and other health care providers work to redesign the delivery of health care against the complex regulatory backdrop of federal health reform and associated reimbursement reductions from government payers. Among Conforti’s responsibilities will be to continue the alignment and integration of all acute care and ambulatory services to better serve patients and reduce costs.
“James is very good at bringing together doctors, hospitals and other providers to improve clinical quality and access to care while making health care more affordable for our patients,” said Krevans. “This expertise coupled with his strong focus on community outreach, patient satisfaction and his outstanding physician relationships will be critical strengths in leading us boldly into the post-health reform environment.”
In his current role as CEO of Memorial Medical Center, Conforti led the implementation of the electronic health record in 2011, experience that he brings to Sacramento as the local Sutter hospitals implement the electronic health record by 2014. Previously, he served as CEO for Sutter Gould Medical Foundation in Modesto and CEO of the Sutter Medical Foundation operations in Yuba City. Conforti started his Sutter career 14 years ago as regional director of managed care and business development for Sutter’s Central Valley service area.
Conforti holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s in health science, health finance and management from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He also served as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the United States Army for nine years stationed in the United States and abroad with assignments including Letterman Army Medical Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Army Medical Command Headquarters.
