Memorial Medical Center Announces Opening of Hybrid Operating Room
First OR of its type in the Central Valley Region
MODESTO, Calif., Jan. 20, 2012 - Memorial Medical Center (MMC), part of the Sutter Health network, announced today that it will soon begin treating patients in a new hybrid operating room, adding to the recent advancements in cardiac services at the hospital.
“Our new hybrid OR is the only operating room-based, fully functional imaging and hybrid suite in the region,” said James Conforti, Memorial Medical Center chief executive officer. “Patients can be diagnosed and treated in one visit, which helps facilitate reduced recovery time.”
The Hybrid OR uses unique technology in the operating suite, to allow doctors across different specialties to work together case-by-case, in the best interest of each patient. It houses the most advanced imaging systems available to provide quick and detailed information for shorter, more accurate treatment with substantially less X-ray exposure when compared to traditional devices.
“The suite is designed to handle cases from minimally invasive to open procedures with the benefit of all the advanced operating room disciplines available,” said Hassan Hussain, M.D., Medical Director of the Chest Pain Center and STEMI Receiving Center at Memorial Medical Center.
For superior precision and control, all of the equipment in the suite can be directly controlled by the physician with the aid of a radiologic technologist. The open and spacious environment, including a state of the art Seimens Zeego Robotic C- arm based imaging system, provides patients with the highest degree of comfort, image quality, and safety.
The opening of the Hybrid OR follows a flurry of recent activity in the cardiac care arena at MMC. The hospital has recently been acknowledged as an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). Hospitals that have received SCPC accreditation have achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack. They emphasize the importance of standardized diagnostic and treatment programs that provide more efficient and effective evaluation as well as more appropriate and rapid treatment of patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms.
MMC was also designated a STEMI Receiving Center (SRC) by the Mountain-Valley Emergency Medical Services Agency. As a STEMI Receiving Center, MMC is a preferred destination for patients who access the 9-1-1 system and who show evidence of experiencing a severe heart attack known as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction on a 12 lead EKG.
Memorial Medical Center’s state-of-the-art healthcare encompasses the entire continuum of care for the heart patient and includes such focal points as dispatch, EMS transport, emergency department, cardiac catheterization lab, and cardiac independence and congestive heart failure program.
