SACRAMENTO, Calif., February 22, 2006 – Sutter Health, a family of not-for-profit hospitals, physician organizations and other health care service providers in Northern California, announced today the election of Michael Roosevelt as chair of Sutter’s board of directors. He brings to this role more than 30 years of health care leadership experience in Northern California.
A shareholder in the San Francisco law firm of Friedman, McCubbin, Spalding, Bitler, Roosevelt and Montgomery, Mr. Roosevelt has been a longtime member of the Sutter Health board of directors. During his tenure, Sutter Health has built or replaced more than a dozen major patient care centers and introduced hundreds of new patient services. It also has emerged as a leader in the use of high-tech tools to bring additional clinical expertise and computerized safety checks to patients' bedsides. Mr. Roosevelt also has served as a trustee of Sutter-affiliated California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco from 1985 to 2001.
"Michael's passion for health care, track record as a leader, and commitment to patients are all qualities critical to Sutter Health's mission," said Patrick Fry, president and CEO of Sutter Health. "His leadership will be vital in our work to deliver what health care consumers want and need - convenient and high-quality services as well as outstanding value."
In 1977, Mr. Roosevelt became the founding director of Hospice of San Francisco. Throughout his career he has served as both a board member and chairman for San Francisco Home Health Services and the Visiting Nurses Association of San Francisco. In 1996, CPMC affiliated with the Sutter Health network.
Mr. Roosevelt is active in several professional associations and has served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council and the Board of Trustees of Tougaloo College. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Berkeley Community Fund, Renew! and the Association for the Preservation of the Presidential Yacht, Potomac.
