Two More Medical Foundations Affiliated with Sutter Health Move to Electronic Health Records

Latest Technology Further Connects Patients and Caregivers

SACRAMENTO, Calif., October 7, 2008 - Sutter Health continues to expand its number of medical offices throughout Northern California that are “wired” to best connect patients to health care options where and when they need them.

This summer, the Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation (SEBMF) and the Sutter North Bay Medical Foundation (SNBMF) began implementing the Sutter-wide electronic health record (EHR) system. These implementations extend Sutter Health’s EHR connectivity to now include Santa Cruz, the Silicon Valley, Santa Rosa, Berkeley, Orinda, Lafayette, Modesto, Stockton and Sacramento.

Six of eight medical foundations affiliated with Sutter Health have now implemented the system. Sutter Health’s first hospital implementation is planned for spring of 2009. Adoption of the technology throughout the Sutter Health network supports the not-for-profit’s vision of offering the utmost in safety and quality while further connecting patients throughout Northern California – where they live, work and travel.

“The EHR will transform the way we run our offices,” said William DeWolf, M.D., president of the East Bay Physicians Medical Group. “With timely access to medical records, immediate safety checks, and quicker test results, our clinicians will be able to provide superior patient care.”

“The Sutter Health EHR provides tools that support physicians and employees in providing the highest quality, accessible and affordable care to patients,” said Sean Gaskie, M.D., Sutter North Bay’s Ambulatory EHR Physician Lead. “It will also reduce the variations in clinical practices and operations that are critical for improving patient safety.”

All of Sutter Health’s Northern California hospitals and medical groups will begin using the Sutter Health EHR within the next several years. When the system-wide roll out is complete, the Sutter Health EHR will be one of the nation’s largest in the country, uniting more than 5,000 physicians, 25 hospitals and millions of patients.
