Sutter VNA & Hospice Acquires Cohen Cormier Home Care & Care Management
EMERYVILLE, Calif., January 26, 2009 - Sutter VNA & Hospice, provider of skilled home health care, hospice and related medical services throughout Northern California, announced the acquisition of Cohen Cormier Home Care and Care Management, a non-medical home care and professional care management agency.
“We are very pleased to add this longstanding and respected company to our existing healthcare services lines. This addition will allow Sutter VNA & Hospice the ability to directly serve the elder population in a broader scope of care to include non-medical care provided by trained aides and overseen by professional care managers” said Marcia Reissig, Sutter VNA & Hospice’s Chief Executive Officer.
Reissig continued, “These professional care managers, who are nurses and social workers, empower patient families to better manage their loved ones’ care through planning, oversight and continued communication with doctors and various healthcare providers. Families, who live at a distance from their loved ones or are overwhelmed by care-related challenges and decisions, welcome this invaluable guidance and support.”
The original founders of the company, Sandra Cohen, R.N., and Roger Cormier, M.A., who have founded and operated ongoing home care services in the Bay Area for 20 years, will continue to oversee and develop Sutter VNA & Hospice’s newest home-based service line in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
Sandra Cohen’s background includes nursing roles in hospitals, home health and rehabilitation care settings. She is also active in the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. Roger Cormier has developed volunteer-based programs that serve seniors and their families and is a board member of the East Bay Estate Planning Council. Combining their experience, Cohen and Cormier co-author the column “Growing Older”, focused on educating the public on the needs of the elderly and their caregivers.
