    Physician Creates Podcasts for Patients

AUBURN, Calif., May 29, 2009 - Auburn Family Medicine physician Mark Vaughan, M.D., is always current on the latest health and wellness issues. But he’s also up-to-date with technology.
Dr. Vaughan is one of the first physicians in the region to create audio podcasts for his website, www.vaughanmd.com. These podcasts provide information on a variety of subjects ranging from H1N1 (swine flu) to heat related illness.

"I enjoy working with the technology and being able to provide information to my patients in a new way," said Dr. Vaughan. "I think it’s great that there are so many different vehicles around to disseminate important information."

He began creating the podcasts last summer as a way to provide pertinent health and wellness news to his patients. Other topics include office and insurance information to new patients making first-time appointments. As new information or issues arise, Dr. Vaughan can address them in a fresh podcast and place the information on the web.

The podcasts are easy to access and patients can listen to them on their computers or download them to their iPods. Dr. Vaughan says the response to his podcasts has been good.

In fact, the podcasts have led to an appearance on Wave Broadband’s cable television channel, "News and Views," on June 3, 7 p.m., and to spots on Airsoftology, The Podcast About All Things Airsoft, at www.airsoftology.com. There Dr. Vaughan discusses health and injury prevention issues for hobbyists using Airsoft BB guns for target practice or recreational fun.

"Through my podcasts I’m primarily interested in addressing the health concerns of my patients," said Dr. Vaughan. "My office time is limited but with podcasts I can continue conversing and sharing with my patients. Podcasts are a great tool and I look forward to creating new topics relevant to patients and other on-line consumers."
