Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Upgrades Surgical Equipment

AUBURN, Calif. April 27, 2009 - Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital is upgrading and adding surgical equipment in the operating rooms to enhance the hospital’s ability to provide state-of-the art orthopedic surgeries and to enable other surgeries to take place in multiple operating rooms simultaneously.

The Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Foundation raised over $300,000 with the generous support of the community and Sutter Health matched this amount for a total of $600,000 to purchase the updated surgical equipment.

"The new equipment is more versatile and can accommodate a variety of uses, allowing us to do more for our patients," said Orthopedic Surgeon Jeffrey Bergeson, D.O. "For instance, the new mini-C-arm system, used for high-resolution x-ray, is very compact and can be used in smaller spaces such as the emergency department to assist in diagnosing hand or wrist fractures."

In addition to the ARCADIS Mini-C-Arm mentioned above, the upgraded equipment includes a Hana Table, Jackson Spinal Table, ARCADIS Large C-Arm, anesthesia machine, transposal suction system and a FastSystem General Surgery System.

"The Hana Table will improve our treatment of hip and knee surgery patients primarily and the Jackson Spinal Table will enhance our capability for spinal surgery," said Dr. Bergeson.
The Hana Table will allow orthopedic surgeons to perform the newer anterior hip replacement procedure which is less invasive than the traditional method. Anterior hip replacement surgery is performed through an incision at the front of the hip, avoiding muscles and tendons to cut through.

The Jackson Spinal Table will improve the hospital’s capacity for spinal surgery as it allows a 360 degree rotation to improve safe handling of the patient during spine surgery. The C-arm systems will provide high-resolution x-rays during surgical procedures.

"We are delighted to have updated surgical equipment for our orthopedic department," said Dr. Bergeson. "The new equipment will enhance our abilities to provide high quality care as well as improve our patient’s surgical experience."
