Sutter Physician Services Earns 'Workplace Excellence' Award

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 28, 2011 - Sutter Physician Services was named a winner of the Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leader Awards (SWEL) at the Ninth Annual awards event on Wednesday, April 27 at the Radison Hotel Sacramento. The SWEL awards recognize employers who provide exceptional benefits, programs and training, and promote employee health, safety, advancement, diversity and security.

More than 75 companies were nominated by their employees for this recognition. Sutter Physician Services earned the top award in the “Nonprofit – Large” (business) category.

Among the company practices that caught judges' attention were the leadership development and professional training programs, and how the company encourages a healthy work environment by providing an onsite Sutter Express Care clinic and fitness center (or company-paid access to an area fitness center for regional office staff), ongoing exercise activities and weight management programs, ergonomic assessments for all employees, and a voluntary wellness program providing cash rewards for those reaching certain health-related goals.

SWEL awards were given for small, medium, and large-size organizations in the categories of not-for-profit, profit, and government agency/public sector. Nominees completed an extensive application process that was screened by judges chosen from among representatives of the community and local businesses. The Sacramento Area Human Resource Association, in association with the Sacramento Bee, began developing the SWEL concept in 2002 and held the first event in 2003. The 2010 award winner for “Nonprofit - Large” was Catholic Healthcare West—Sacramento System Office.
