Longtime Health Care Leader Named Chair of Sutter Health Board of Directors
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 1, 2011 - Geraldine “Gerry” Brinton recently became the new chair of the Sutter Health Board of Directors. The Sonoma County resident is a longtime member of the board, which is responsible for governance of the not-for-profit, Northern California health system.
Brinton joined the Sutter Health Board of Directors in 2006, serving as a chair of the finance committee. She has a strong interest in further improving health care in Northern California. Brinton joined the Board of Trustees of San Francisco’s Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center in 1985, which later transitioned to Sutter-affiliated California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in 1996. Applying financial and investment counsel on a number of committees, Brinton was appointed Board Chair of CPMC and maintained that role for several years.
“Gerry’s commitment to Sutter Health and local health care is evident through her passionate leadership and longtime community involvement,” said Pat Fry, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “The health care industry is in the midst of a major transformation, and her strategic vision will play a vital role in our network’s ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality, efficient care to our patients and communities.”
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Duke University, Brinton worked as a certified public accountant, later earning a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University. Along with independent business ventures and management consulting, she also served on the Board of Trustees for San Francisco’s Drew College Preparatory School for three years.
In addition to her interest in health care, Brinton and her husband Bill serve as proprietors for Charles Creek Vineyard, a small artisan winery in Sonoma. They reside in Sonoma County.
