Sutter Health Receives Patriot Award for Supporting Veterans and Employees
SACRAMENTO, Calif. Nov. 28, 2011 - Sutter Health President and CEO Pat Fry today accepted the Patriot Award from Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on behalf of the Sutter Health network of care.
A Department of Defense National Committee, ESGR recognizes organizations that demonstrate leadership in their support of veterans and employees on active duty.
With 14 years of military service, including eight years on active duty, Patrick McClain, a Programs Manager for Sutter Health’s Human Resources Information Systems department, nominated Sutter Health for the award. Patrick is in the US Air Force Reserve.
“I wouldn’t be able to serve my country without the support of my employer," McClain reflected. "I’m grateful for what Sutter Health has allowed me to pursue in my professional career and continued military service.”
“We want to see that our military is treated with respect,” said Troy Brimhall, ESGR volunteer and representative. “This award goes to companies that go above and beyond to support veterans and active reserves.”
Sutter Health participates in a number of programs dedicated to supporting employees in the military as well as their families, recruiting reservists and veterans who seek employment, and honoring their service to our country, including:
- Employing over 1,000 veterans and employees in the active reserve
- Actively recruiting at Career Expos for military.com and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA)
- Partnering with the Employment Development Department (EDD) to promote jobs for military members seeking employment
