Expanding Access to Care

We launched our Sutter Express Care medical clinics in Rite Aid stores in the greater Sacramento area.

These clinics provide another option for consumers seeking convenient and affordable solutions for their immediate health care needs.

"We understand that people get sick beyond normal business hours, but with Sutter Express Care, help is right around the corner. Our medical clinics provide patients in our communities another option for diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses that need immediate attention."

We invested $192 million in capital improvement projects completed during 2006 to improve the health care infrastructure in communities all around Northern California. In addition to 23 other completed renovation or new-construction projects, our Sutter Health network finished the following new facilities for patients:

  • Addition of a new 74,000-square-foot medical office building at the Fremont Center of Palo Alto Medical Foundation, bringing expanded primary and specialty care medical services closer to home for patients.
  • New Stockton Medical Plaza of Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, a 70,000-square-foot medical office building built to better serve the growing community with a host of services in one convenient location and the latest in health information and imaging technology.
  • A new radiation oncology suite and two stories of additional medical office building space at the comprehensive cancer center at Sutter Solano Medical Center. Patients no longer need to travel outside the community for lifesaving cancer treatments.

Our Sutter Health network announced the creation of a new shared clinical laboratory.

The new facility, which is being built in Livermore to serve a number of our affiliates, will provide primarily specialty testing that currently is outsourced to a commercial reference laboratory in Southern California.

Sutter Health is insourcing this work within our own system, where it can be most effectively and efficiently managed. The new lab is expected to open in summer 2007.
