Within our Sutter Health family, more than 5,000 caring volunteers generously donate their time to benefit our patients.

Gail Stone, volunteer, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital
I’ve always worked in the medical field, and so when I retired in 2000, I decided that I would like to continue my medical work. I’ve been a volunteer here at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, doing all sorts of jobs.

In our hospitals and doctors’ offices, volunteers are making lasting impressions on patients and their families and friends.

Myrtle Herring, volunteer, Palo Alto Medical Foundation
When I wake up I say (to myself), “God, let me be a blessing to someone today.” And that's exactly what happens when I'm here because people are so glad to find somebody to help them get to where they want to go. That’s my way of giving back for all the blessings that I enjoy.

Betty Evans, volunteer, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital
People stop and say, “I just can’t tell you how much I appreciate your help.” And I can’t tell you how that makes me feel—because then I'm here for a reason.

Our volunteers make an important difference in each patient’s health care experience.

Carl Anderson, volunteer, Palo Alto Medical Foundation
We help the patients when they come through the door. We direct them to where they need to go. Sometimes we help them with wheelchairs and whatever else needs to be done.

Deanna Eshpeter, volunteer, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital
They just need that special little pat on the back that says ‘You’re going to be okay’ to make them feel better. A lot of times when they’re coming here—especially into the emergency department—they’re scared. So, you need to make them feel better.

Donna Gartner, volunteer, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital
I just love the children. Just a few minutes ago, I sold a little musical Santa Claus to a little boy. Just watching him pick what he wanted—that’s fun for me.

JoAnn Fonda, volunteer, Palo Alto Medical Foundation
I want to help everyone that I can and make people feel good about coming here. When you’re a volunteer, you always get more back than you give.
