Philosophy of Care
My approach to caring for patients centers around their trust, particularly trust in my commitment to helping them feel better. This begins with being accessible, in clinic and in the hospital, so they feel someone is focused on their needs right away. I enjoy direct discussion where we can share details comfortably so not only do I understand what is wrong and how to help, but so they understand their illness and can participate in decision-making. My patients learn quickly that I share their hope that all problems are fixable, and that their impact on the rest of life at home, at play or at work is minimized. I make sure they know that there is no such thing as a trivial question. If knowing the answer would make them feel better, it is always worth asking.
