Philosophy of Care
I am a dermatologist and dermatopathologist who concentrates in the specialty of skin pathology.
I joined PAMF in 2007 when I moved to the West Coast to be closer to my two daughters and their families. I enjoy so much being a part of their lives again.
This was the last move I hope. I am a nomad who has finally found a home, having been in almost all parts of the United States and briefly in Europe as a child of an Air Force family. I graduated from Duke University and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. I have a broad experience in several of the major dermatology programs (Yale University, University of Pennsylvania) during medical training. I was a Professor of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University for 12 years, doing clinical dermatopathology, teaching residents and medical students, and heading an NIH funded research laboratory in which I studied skin manifestations of autoimmune disease. My publications cover a broad scope of clinical dermatology and basic science of skin biology.
I am dedicated to the goal of PAMF: to provide the best medical care possible to our patients. I thoroughly enjoy being at the interface of clinical dermatology and skin pathology, each a fascinating and challenging area in its own right. I am a full-time dermatopathologist and consultant--I see patients indirectly through their physicians, mainly dermatologists and through the glass slides of their skin biopsies. I take great pride in helping clinicians come to a diagnosis and care path for a patient on the basis of the skin biopsy which can often provide critical clues to disease that are not apparent otherwise.
