    More information

Dr. Dobson is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned both his M.D. degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in the Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral thesis resulting in his Ph.D. was in the field of Microbiology and Immunology, in which he used recombinant DNA technology to study herpes simplex virus. He then went to the University of Texas, Southwestern, in Dallas to complete his residency where he worked at Parkland Hospital, the busiest hospital for obstetrics in the country.

Dr. Dobson then moved to the Bay Area to complete his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco. At UCSF, he studied gene expression in human eggs and embryos as they progressed through fertilization to the blastocyst stage of development.

He then became a Women's Reproductive Health Research Award Scholar in which he studied gene expression in the eggs of aging women. In his laboratory at UCSF, he further studied genes in the folic acid pathway and their role in pregnancy and pregnancy loss. He presented this work as a prize paper at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. This academic work prepared him well to take care of couples having difficulty conceiving pregnancies and carrying them into the second trimester.

Although he treats couples with any kind of fertility problem, he especially likes to care for women with egg causes of infertility, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and diminished ovarian reserve. He also is comfortable speaking to and helping women with sexual dysfunction or traumatic past experiences in their quest for pregnancy. He performs both hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery for a variety of conditions primarily related to infertility. He performs in-office treatment for missed abortions and diagnostic and minor hysteroscopic surgeries. He can also evaluate tubal patency by saline infusion sonohysterography, avoiding fluoroscopic X-rays and iodine-based contrast dye.
