Philosophy of Care
My goal is to provide the kind of care that I would want for my family or for myself. I would expect physicians caring for my family or myself to be informed about state-of-the-art treatment for the specific problem. They would need to show compassion and be able to appreciate the patient's individual concerns, and to consider the effects that different choices have on the overall quality of life. They need to ensure that the patient understands the overall benefits and risks of any choices. The physicians need to be responsive to questions and available for problems that might arise, and to show empathy for the patient's hopes and fears. They would need to be optimistic about the future, and to be respectful and receptive to the patient's concerns. My personal goal is to be this kind of physician for anyone under my care.
