Philosophy of Care
I believe having a family is one of the most important life goals of many, but not all, people. For women and men who are having difficulty becoming pregnant or having a successful pregnancy, I want to do everything possible to help them achieve their dream. I believe that from my personal and professional experience I can empathize with the sadness and emotional stress that is created by infertility, and can help them find ways to manage these real problems associated with infertility. My objectives are to provide them with a realistic assessment of their chances of having a child, the diagnostic investigation needed to have a comprehensive understanding of their biologic reproductive situation and the different treatment approaches that can be used to achieve pregnancy and a healthy baby. I try to help couples approach difficult decisions from a cost-benefit approach of value to them of a baby and the chances of treatment success compared with the financial, time, physical and emotional costs of different treatments. I work with the patients to assess the different options and choose the treatment and management approach that is best for them. I use evidence-based and evidence-linked information whenever possible to create a treatment plan. Sometimes more subjective and less well substantiated treatments are appropriate when their cost and risk is low. Then we proceed to implement these treatments, which I do with the assistance of my experienced reproductive endocrinologist partners. Because of the current focus of my career and practice, I see patients on Mondays and Tuesdays only, during which time my patients and I make all our plans and I perform procedures and operations as needed. On other days of the week my partners perform these procedures when they are necessary.
