Helen W. Ho, M.D.

After finishing my pharmacy program in college, I worked as a hospital pharmacist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. During that three-year period, I became interested in the clinical aspects of patient care beyond dispensing medications. I went to medical school, and finished my medical school and residency training in 1991. I chose internal medicine because of my pharmacy background and training in drugs and therapeutics. I chose primary care because I believe in providing comprehensive care in treating my patient as a whole person, not just an organ or body part. I like to know my patients individually and try to understand their multiple aspects of their lives: their jobs, families, culture, and social background.

I have been practicing medicine now for almost 20 years. It is a privilege for me to be able to serve. I treat my patients kindly and work hard to earn their trust and respect. I may not always agree with them, but I promise to always be truthful and honest to help them with their health-care decisions. Ultimately, the patients should be making decisions for themselves. My daily goal as their physician is to promote education, optimize resources, prevent disease, treat illness, minimize pain, reduce suffering, ease stress, provide mental support and comfort. I am always their advocate for better health.
