Philosophy of Care
In my practice, I emphasize patient centered care by creating an empowering partnership with patients. I strive to achieve the best care possible and believe that collaboration between other providers, caregivers, and patients is essential to attaining this goal. I educate patients both about their diagnosis as well as possible options for treatment and enlist their active participation in making treatment decisions. My approach is exemplified by an admonition by Sir William Osler, "It is more important to know what patient has the disease than to know what disease the patient has." Knowing who my patients are and what their goals are is central to my practice. My approach to care is multidisciplinary and includes pharmacological, physical, behavioral, and procedural/surgical interventions.
