    Philosophy of Care

I believe that the human's body, mind, and spirit are dynamically interrelated. A clinician should look at a person as a whole, and not just focusing on a particular system or a disease. A thorough history and a heart "willing to listen" on the physician's part are key in reaching the correct diagnoses. I think one's cultural background and his or her beliefs play a big part in one's life (and ultimately in one's health care and well being). I'm open to discuss, with my patients, their beliefs, taboos, and ideas from their upbringing. In a diverse community such as the one we live in, we ought to respect our differences and learn from each other. I also value the roles that many alternative modalities (such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional balance, relaxation and strengthening exercises such as Tai Chi, Yoga, and certain breathing techniques, etc.) play in the healing process of many ailments. I don't think "taking the pills" is the solution to all problems. Physicians and their patients should keep an open mind, and explore new ways to improve health. It is an ongoing process for me and my patients, to learn about their body and their underlying conditions. Together, we will establish goals to get well and stay healthy.
