Dr. Gaynon was the director of the Vitreoretinal Surgery Service at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1979-1991. He is currently an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford.

Dr. Gaynon is married to fellow Palo Alto Medical Foundation ophthalmologist Susan Ryu. They have two children.
