Philosophy of Care
I went into palliative care because it allows me to spend the time with patients, to really get to know them and hear their concerns. To me, this is the core of what medical care should be. The health care team should give patients information regarding their diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options. However, patients need to provide their doctor with their values and priorities in life so that together they can make treatment decisions. It is this interaction that for me is the most important part of what I do as a physician.
