Gender Reassignment Surgery
Many transgender patients see gender reassignment surgery as a final step in their transition from living as one gender to living as another.
We offer transgender surgery services at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center and California Pacific Medical Center. Dr. Marci Bowers, one of the foremost transgender surgeons in the world, leads the transgender care team. She has performed more than 2,000 transgender surgeries during her career.
In order to have gender reassignment surgery, patients should be 18 years or older (except with special exception and conditions established well in advance), have undergone 12 months of hormonal therapy, and lived successfully as their desired gender for 12 months. These steps allow them time to consolidate their gender identity and work with family, friends and employers before having surgery. While each person’s circumstances are different, experts at Sutter Health find that patients who follow these guidelines experience a much smoother transition.
Experienced surgical teams provide comprehensive support before, during and after male-to-female and female-to-male surgeries.
Here are some of the services we offer. We also partner with cosmetic surgeons and other specialists for additional gender affirmation procedures.
- Tracheal Shave
- Breast Augmentation (BA)
- Ring Metoidioplasty
- Simple Metoidioplasty
