The Alta Bates Summit Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Program offers hope to many cancer patients who would otherwise face a very poor prognosis. Recent advances in the field have made BMT an effective, life-saving treatment option and, in some cases, a first-line treatment choice.

Bone Marrow Transplant
The program's medical staff of four physicians has over 65 years of combined transplantation experience representing more than 600 transplants. The BMT team provides a well-integrated multidisciplinary approach through all phases of treatment, ensuring the highest quality personalized care for BMT patients and their families.

A cornerstone of the program is the partnership formed between each patient and the BMT medical staff. Once a patient has been accepted into the program, one physician is selected to direct the care from initial consultations through hospitalization and post-transplant care. Working in concert with the BMT physician, the BMT Clinical Coordinator facilitates the referral and testing process, conducts patient and staff education, and assists in arranging outpatient care leading up to and following transplant, including long-term follow-up after the patient returns to the primary care physician.
