Heart Transplant
California Pacific Medical Center offers a wide variety of cardiac services for patients with heart failure within the Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Program. California Pacific's Heart Failure and Transplant Program began in 1984. Since that time, more than 300 transplants have been performed. Program quality is demonstrated in excellent long-term survival rates.
More Than Just Transplantation
A key differentiator is that California Pacific Medical Center's Heart Failure and Transplant Program offers more than just transplantation. Capabilities include drug and medical device trials, and artificial heart "bridge to transplantation" and "bridge-to-recovery."
California Pacific Medical Center has been designated one of eighteen Heart Hope Centers nationwide by Thoratec Corporation and the only Heart Hope Center in Northern California.

Kidney & Kidney-Pancreas Transplant
The Kidney and Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Program began in 1969 and has become one of the largest private-hospital transplant programs nationwide. To improve the quality of patients' lives, California Pacific began performing simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants in 1989. To date, more than 3,300 kidney transplants and nearly 100 kidney-pancreas transplants have been performed. Survival rates are amongst the best in the nation, as are lengths of stay.
Experienced, Specialized Medical Professionals
- Physicians are dedicated full-time to transplantation and focus their activities toward supporting the pre- and post-transplant process. Five nephrologists specializing in kidney transplantation oversee patient care.
- Kidney transplants are performed by one of two surgeons.
- Clinical nurse coordinators closely monitor patients referred to the program. These coordinators are specially trained in kidney failure, pre- and post-op care, and patient education.
- Social workers meet with patients and their family to discuss social issues related to kidney transplantation. An admission coordinator handles financial issues such as insurance authorization.
A key differentiator of California Pacific Medical Center's Kidney and Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Program is its community outreach. With outreach clinics in Fresno, Modesto, Roseville, the East Bay and South Bay, California Pacific brings its program close to patients, so they can access their transplant team in their own neighborhood. Full-time nurse coordinators staff these clinics, which offer pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant care.
