New Grad/RN Re-Entry Programs
To smooth your transition into starting or re-visiting your nursing career, Sutter Health affiliates offer a variety of new grad and re-entry nursing programs to get you on the right path.
The New Graduate/Re-entry Program typically includes a formal education and training program for recent graduates of nursing programs who have not previously worked as a licensed Registered Nurse. The program is also designed to accommodate the experienced nurse who is re-entering the acute care setting. The purpose of the program is to facilitate successful transition into the role of registered nurse and to foster assimilation in the healthcare setting in order to optimize quality patient care and retention of high performing professionals.
Program Format
The program generally consists of classroom (didactic) educational presentations, initial follow-up competency validation and development plans, clinical rotation under the supervision of a qualified preceptor, and ongoing meetings with the clinical educator, preceptor and others to assure progression and advancement on the continuum from novice to competent performance.

- Develop clinical competence
- Reduce anxiety associated with being a novice in the nursing profession
- Facilitate assimilation to healthcare environment through support systems
At the completion of the program, the participants will be able to:
- Successfully handle a patient assignment
- Demonstrate a complete physical and psychosocial assessment on a patient
- Take appropriate problem-solving actions when confronted with a clinical or administrative dilemma
- Work cooperatively and effectively with physicians, family members and other members of the healthcare team.
