Diabetes is a lifelong but manageable disease. In the Sutter Health network, our goal is to give you ongoing support to avoid complications and enjoy good health.
Sutter’s diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) program is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Taught by certified diabetes educators, DSMES training can help you learn about diabetes and how it affects your body. The program can also help you live a full and healthy life by focusing on these seven self-care behaviors:
- Healthy eating
- Regular activity
- Monitoring blood glucose (blood sugar)
- Taking medication
- Problem-solving
- Healthy coping
- Reducing risk
During your training, you’ll get the skills you need to develop a personal management plan you can easily follow. Training usually takes place within a small group of others who have also been diagnosed with diabetes.
Beyond your initial training, our diabetes care team will be there to answer your questions and provide support, linking you with other programs and resources within Sutter Health and the greater community.
