Access & Innovation

San Francisco Celebrates Two New Sutter Hospitals

Sutter opened two new California Pacific Medical Center campuses in San Francisco in the space of seven months. CPMC’s Mission Bernal Campus hospital offers patients innovative technology, advanced seismic safety and all-private patient rooms. The $2.1 billion Van Ness Campus hospital features first-in-the-nation-use of a seismic technology known as viscous wall dampers, smart technology aimed at improving existing patient care, and all-private patient rooms.

We Innovate to Expand Access to Care

Sutter Health is always searching for new ways to make care more convenient, more efficient and more affordable.

Automated Reminders

We launched automated appointment reminders for Sutter patients throughout our network in 2018 to increase efficiency.

Digital Wait Lists, Fast Pass

Digital wait lists and Fast Pass enable us to automatically offer patients earlier appointments when they become available due to cancellations.

Video Visits, Chat Referrals

To connect patients to the right care at the right time, we expanded access to video visits, and launched our chat referral tool in 2018 to make it easier for patients across our integrated network to seek specialty care.

Caring for Body and Mind

We see mental health as part of overall health. As an integrated healthcare system and as a workplace, Sutter works to eliminate social prejudice, raise awareness, engage in suicide prevention and expand access to care.

  • Telepsychiatry Deployment

Through a strategic partnership, Sutter provides 24-7 telepsychiatry capabilities to our emergency departments and medical/surgical units. Each day, more than 3,000 patients receive telepsychiatry consults in 15 of our hospitals.

  • Primary Care Integration

With Sutter’s integrated model of mental health, Sutter primary care physicians were able to refer 11,000 patients for outpatient mental health through our strategic partner Quartet’s innovative software.

  • Mental Health Partnerships

Sutter Health partnered with the Steinberg Institute and others to support mental health policy development, educational outreach and advocacy in California and beyond. Read more. Read more about mental health partnerships
