Comprehensive Care for Heart Failure

Nearly 5 million Americans have heart failure, and it has become the most common reason for the hospitalization of patients over the age of 65.

Heart failure is a condition in which your heart can no longer pump the amount of blood your body needs, either because the heart’s muscle is too weak or too stiff. Several different heart-related problems can cause heart failure and it often becomes a chronic, lifelong condition.

Our heart failure experts, programs and facilities are among the best in the country. The Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute Heart Health Clinic was the first program in the nation to be certified by the Joint Commission for our safe, successful transitions of care for heart failure patients going from an inpatient setting to an outpatient setting. Additionally, some of our facilities have repeatedly and consecutively been awarded the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines® top gold award for excellent heart failure treatment.

We offer comprehensive services that include extensive diagnostics and a wide range of therapies and procedures to manage heart failure, such as:

  • Angioplasty and stent placement
  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for adults
  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for children
  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy
