Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center (SMPMC) is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving the Peninsula community through two campuses. The Burlingame campus is a 241-bed acute care hospital that provides a broad range of inpatient and specialty services. The San Mateo campus offers specialty services including adult and adolescent behavioral health, cancer care, and outpatient surgery.

The SMPMC PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program is a one-year postgraduate training program designed to prepare pharmacists for clinical practice through a diverse range of patient care and professional development experiences. Welcoming its inaugural residency class in 2027-2028, the program provides residents with opportunities to work alongside experienced pharmacists and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals while gaining exposure to acute care, medication management, quality improvement initiatives, and collaborative patient care.

Through structured learning experiences, mentorship, and teaching opportunities, residents develop clinical knowledge, leadership abilities, and professional skills while working toward their individual career goals. The program fosters a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

As a new residency program, residents have a unique opportunity to contribute to the program's development and future direction. Our goal is to develop well-rounded pharmacists who are equipped to provide high-quality patient care, adapt to the evolving healthcare landscape, and pursue a variety of career paths.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming learning environment where all residents are supported in achieving their professional goals and reaching their full potential.

**Accreditation Status:** The SMPMC PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program is a new residency program and is not currently accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program will seek ASHP accreditation following the launch of the residency program.

The San Francisco Peninsula is home to diverse communities, beautiful outdoor spaces, and a variety of local attractions. Its central location provides convenient access to both San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
