We offer four full-time fellowship positions designed to develop advanced clinical competencies in health psychology and provide the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in this rapidly expanding area of professional practice.  The 12-month training program is a planned, structured, and administered sequence of professionally supervised clinical training that satisfies the California Board of Psychology [licensing requirements](https://www.psychology.ca.gov/applicants/psychologist.shtml "licensing requirements") for post-doctoral training. Fellows specialize in providing psychological services in interdisciplinary medical settings. They work with patients and their families to cope effectively with acute and chronic disease, make lifestyle changes, and address a range of psychosocial problems. Under the direction of experienced clinical supervisors, our fellows provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy, offer evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression and other psychiatric disorders, deliver behavioral interventions for stress, sleep, weight and behavioral health issues, and design lifestyle interventions to promote patient’s health and well-being and prevent disease recurrence. Our curriculum covers a broad range of health psychology competencies (e.g., consultation-liaison psychology, psychotherapy approaches, motivational interviewing, behavioral change theories, health beliefs and attitudes, treatment interventions for medical patients, effective collaboration with medical teams, etc.). Our weekly Health Psychology Seminar provides basis for our evidence-based approach to patient-centered care.  Additional didactics are available through our fully accredited [psychiatry residency](https://www.sutterhealth.org/education/gme/residencies/cpmc-psychiatry) training program. Fellows are fully “integrated” into numerous medical departments across the CPMC campuses. As a valued member of these interdisciplinary teams, fellows enjoy a range of clinical activities and work with a diverse patient population. Fellows attend team meetings to work side-by-side with medical providers to increase the quality of patient care and improve medical outcomes. Currently, the CPMC Health Psychology Fellowship offers year-long clinical tracks in Psycho-Oncology and Women’s Mental Health with training rotations in Behavioral Cardiology, Neurogastroenterology, and Palliative Care Communication Skills Training. In addition to direct clinical care, we value the importance of fellow’s providing training to healthcare professionals and education to the local community.
