Having a new diagnosis of cancer can be a very stressful time. As such, my philosophy of caring for patients with a cancer diagnosis is a team-based approach. Working with all team members, from intake coordinators, nursing staff, social workers, nutritionists, and other consultants including my oncology colleagues, we devise a comprehensive care plan that is appropriate for each individual patient. Patients' preferences, life experiences, personal beliefs, and social situation all contribute to an individual treatment care plan. There have been many advances in cancer care recently, making it possible to discuss a variety of treatment options. I have been honored to care for patients with cancer diagnosis. It never ceases to amaze me how patients and family open their hearts to me allowing me to be part of their journey. My friends often ask me if given the opportunity, I would have chosen the same line of work and specialty. The answer is a resounding yes!
