Philosophy of Care
I am a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist who believes strongly in the benefits of therapy as well as the appropriate use of medication in the pathway to healing. I find the most important element of successful treatment is establishing a trusting and engaging relationship between patient and doctor, and I hope you will find me warm and approachable. While treatment often focuses on areas of struggle or hardship, I also like to emphasize the successes and strengths that one possesses, as these are often under-appreciated, especially when one is feeling depressed or anxious. I take a multi-faceted approach to my treatment plans with patients and families, including an in-depth evaluation of both mental and physical health, performance at school/work, self-reflection, and family relationships, because all of these aspects of our lives impact our well-being. I have experience with medication management for many mental health conditions, and can help with the decision of whether medication would be beneficial. I am one of few doctors who have graduated from a "Triple-Board" program, completing residencies and fellowship in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, which has cultivated my expertise in child development. I have also completed a 2 year Advanced Psychotherapy Program, which has honed my skills as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I meet frequently with patients, especially early in treatment, because I feel this enhances my patient-centered approach and encourages development of the therapeutic relationship. When working with children and adolescents, I also like to keep a close connection with parents, since parents are experts of their child and often provide the most valuable insights into their strengths and struggles. I have particular interests in Anxiety, Trauma, Separation Anxiety, School refusal, mood disorders, ADHD, Parent-Child Conflicts, and Behavioral issues, and take a unique approach to helping families work together to make a happier and more harmonious home and school environment. I look forward to meeting you and your family.
