Philosophy of Care
I entered the field of medicine to use knowledge and breakthroughs in science to improve health and quality of life. I have remained in the field because of the human connection. The medical field is as much about relationship as it is about science. Accordingly, rheumatology, a field of complex and chronic diseases, has been a natural fit for me because this field of medicine affords me the reward of creating long term relationships with my patients. Building trust and expressing a genuine desire to understand my patients' goals is a rewarding part of my daily experience. It is natural then that I see myself as a consultant, prepared to provide evidence-based advice that takes into account the unique perspective of each of my patients. Treatment plans are individualized and sensitive to patient preferences, beliefs, needs, and the willingness to accept the risks and benefits of the treatments that I offer. I seek to provide the highest quality of care by listening carefully, allowing time for questions, and embracing the use of technology in order to facilitate communication with me.
