Dr. Sherer realized how challenging it is to be the “perfect” parent she once hoped to become, and that sometimes parents simply need to do what is necessary to get through the day. This experience also helped her appreciate the value of reassurance. She understands that sometimes parents think everything is fine but just want someone else to confirm it. She encourages families never to hesitate to ask questions or to have concerns checked out, assuring them that she will never judge what might seem like silly questions. While she does not promise to know everything, she pledges that if a child has a problem outside her expertise, or if there is a question she cannot answer, she will work collaboratively with families to find the right information. She is passionate about connecting with families and watching children grow into opinionated individuals. She discusses with her patients’ families how life choices impact long-term health and strongly advocates for immunizations and a holistic approach to wellness, which includes nutrition, exercise, community, stress reduction, and of course, fun and play. Recognizing that few medical issues are clear cut or have a single solution, her approach is to collaborate with families, offering a range of options whenever possible. She is also comfortable recommending non-intervention when appropriate, as sometimes allowing the body to heal naturally is the healthiest course of action.
