How to Have a Great Summer Vacation

Katie Ransohoff, High School Student Writer

Vacation can be anything that is a break or change from your routine. You don't have to spend lots of money or go far away to have fun and relax with your friends and family. If it's summer, you can take a break from school and:

  • Enjoy nature by being outside
  • Read
  • Write
  • Cook
  • Play with friends
  • Watch a little TV
  • Sew, crochet or knit
  • Swim
  • Exercise or play sports
  • Have sleepovers
  • Go to a summer camp
  • Volunteer
  • Spend time without technology
  • Camp out near your house
  • and more!

It's not hard to find fun things to do when you have lots of time. If your family plans to go away, send postcards or letters home and call if you can — people will miss you!

If you are going away, talk to your family about what you might want to do. Each state has an official website with free maps and coupons for that state (these sites are also good if you have to write a report about a state for school). Also, look at Amtrak for information about train travel.

You can also make your own vacation — you don't have to go on a plane to have fun. Enjoy the time and relax. It's most important to remember to have fun whatever you do!
