Kahi Mohala affiliated with Sutter Health in 1993 and was converted to a not-for-profit behavioral health hospital. The affiliation assured the continued availability of the 88-bed facility to serve the Pacific Rim community.
An Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program opened in 1999 at its lower Ewa Beach campus on the island of Oahu.
In 2000, Kahi Mohala became the first TRICARE/CHAMPUS-certified partial hospitalization program for children and adolescents in Hawaii.
In 2002, Kahi Mohala introduced a new treatment system that emphasizes a positive behavior approach, creates learning opportunities for patients and sets clear behavioral expectations. The entire staff of the Adult Acute Unit was trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, resulting in marked improvements with mood disorder patients using this new therapy.
In 2003, Kahi Mohala introduced an enhanced treatment program for the adolescent unit. The program features a positive behavior approach, based on the traditional nautical elements of Hawaii’s past. In October of that same year, Kahi Mohala celebrated its 20th anniversary as a provider of high-quality behavioral healthcare services to the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Pacific Rim.
