Five Sutter Health Hospital Campuses Earn 2014 Top Hospital Distinction
Today, The Leapfrog Group® named five Sutter Health hospital campuses to its annual list of Top Hospitals. The elite distinction honors hospitals that demonstrate excellence in safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The Leapfrog Group awards the Top Hospital recognition to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals.
Sutter Health hospital campuses named as Top Hospitals in 2014 include:
- Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Alta Bates campus in Berkeley
- California Pacific Medical Center, Pacific, California and St. Luke’s campuses in San Francisco
- Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz
“This distinction recognizes the focused, collaborative work of teams across our network to advance quality care,” said Gordon Hunt, M.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer for Sutter Health. “Through our commitment to quality and service, our patients can receive the care they deserve, which can lead to better treatment results and a better quality of life.”
Selection as a Top Hospital is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including rates for high-risk procedures and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
The Top Hospital award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but to all urban, rural and children’s hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year’s Top Hospitals Methodology. To see the complete list of 2014 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
