Heart Transplant Patient Advocates for Organ Donations
Coralia “Cory” Martinez Salazar, a 33-year-old mother of three, returned to Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento to thank her doctors and nurses for the heart transplant she received exactly one year ago.
“If you saw Cory a year ago till now you wouldn’t recognize her,” said Dr. John Chin, the head of the Heart Transplant Program at Sutter Memorial Hospital. “She was probably less than six months maybe even less.”
Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute’s program – the only heart transplant center in the region – set a record in 2011 with 11 transplants.
In partnership with Sierra Donor Services, Cory encouraged the public to sign up for the donor registry during Donate Life Month. To learn more about becoming an organ donor at www.donatelifecalifornia.org.
