Let the music play! Memorial Medical Center celebrates piano donation
MODESTO, Calif. – Music helps in the healing process. Music brings comfort, excitement, emotion and energy to patients, family members and caregivers. Now—thanks to a Memorial Hospital Foundation campaign, and donations by employees, volunteers, clinicians and a local music family—all who enter Memorial Medical Center (MMC) will join in the experience.
At an unveiling event in the North Tower lobby, Memorial Hospital Foundation and MMC leaders, along with employees, clinicians and others, celebrated the arrival of the Yamaha grand piano and enjoyed both live performances and the auto-play capability the piano offers.
“Patients, families and employees will hear the sweet sounds of music, contributing even more to the healing environment at Memorial Medical Center,” said Lisa Hume, Director of Philanthropy for Sutter Health’s South Valley. “We are so happy to be able to offer this enhanced experience, and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
Memorial Medical Center teams have provided music therapy to cancer patients at the bedside at Memorial Medical Center since 2005.
“This creates a beautiful environment for everyone as they come in and out of our lobby,” said Justine Hancock-Marsh, a board certified music therapist who will help determine the types of music best suited for creating a soothing atmosphere in the lobby. “It helps create a more healing environment for our patients.”
