Memorial Hospital Los Banos Partners with Local Church to Provide Showers for Homeless
LOS BANOS – Memorial Hospital Los Banos partnered with Bethel Community Church to provide a mobile 2-station shower unit that will be parked at the church. MHLB donated more than $26,000 enabling the church to purchase the unit.
The shower was unveiled on Friday during the church’s annual Homeless Connect event, a free one-day event for people who are currently experiencing homelessness. The event brought together public agencies, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, private businesses and community members to talk with individuals about services and resources available to them. Memorial Hospital Los Banos provided health screenings to attendees.
“We are interested in improving the health of the community outside the hospital walls just as much as we are on the inside,” said Memorial Hospital Los Banos Administrator Doug Archer. “Having access to showers is one more step in improving the physical health and dignity of those experiencing homelessness.”
Bethel Community Church Pastor Steve Hammond was grateful for the partnership with Sutter Health in making this mobile unit a reality.
“The hospital is a great community partner,” he said. “Being able to help this group of people is so amazing and fulfilling. I am grateful for Sutter Health’s support.”
