New Breakthrough Treatment for Breast Cancer Patients
A new treatment at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) — INTRABEAM® Radiotherapy System — gives patients and physicians another option in the fight against breast cancer. SMCS is the only hospital in the greater-Sacramento area using this advanced technology.
The system, which is housed inside Sutter Capitol Pavilion’s Outpatient Surgery Center on the Sutter General Hospital campus, delivers a prescribed dose of radiation during a patient’s lumpectomy following the tumor removal. Radiation is immediately and precisely directed right where it is needed most – the tumor bed. This process helps prevent the possibility of the cancer returning – and in most cases – eliminates the need for weeks of radiation treatments.
