Sutter Health Donates $500,000 to Help Earthquake Relief Efforts in Nepal
Donation Supports American Red Cross and International Medical Corps
“The widespread damage and suffering caused by this massive earthquake is incomprehensible,” said Pat Fry, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “Our hearts are with the victims, their families and all those affected by this catastrophic disaster. We hope our donation brings comfort and relief to those who need it the most.”
Sutter Health’s donation helps the Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund provide rescue and relief teams to help meet the emergency needs of those directly affected by the earthquake. Sutter Health’s $250,000 donation will help supply food, water, shelter and emotional health services to thousands in Nepal.
International Medical Corps’ emergency response teams immediately responded in Nepal following the earthquake and are providing lifesaving health care services in the hardest-hit areas. Sutter Health’s $250,000 donation helps operation and deployment of additional mobile medical units to bring health care services and medicine to the affected regions. The funds also support procurement, transportation and distribution of urgently-needed medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
“We are extremely honored by Sutter Health’s contribution to help those impacted by the Nepal earthquake,” says Kathleen Weis, CEO of the American Red Cross Gold Country Region. “The devastation in Nepal is truly heartbreaking and with Sutter Health’s generous support the Red Cross can provide aid quickly.”
“Sutter Health’s very generous and timely donation will help International Medical Corps’ emergency response teams reach people in the most distressed communities in remote areas of Nepal,” said Nancy A. Aossey, President & CEO of International Medical Corps. “As the humanitarian needs are steadily growing, and as families are enduring unimaginable suffering, we are tremendously grateful for Sutter Health’s heartfelt and lifesaving support in helping us deliver critical health care and hope in Nepal.”
