Sutter Nurse Honored for Excellence in Eye Surgery
In October, the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses (ASORN) awarded Capitol City Surgery Center Director of Nursing Nancy Haskell, R.N., CNOR, CRNO with its Excellence in Ophthalmic Nursing Award. Capitol City Surgery Center is part of the Sutter Surgery Center Division family.
ASORN’s Board of Directors selects one registered nurse from among its membership to receive the award each year at ASORN’s annual convention.
“Nancy exemplifies the ophthalmic nurse who demonstrates clinical competence, innovation, collaboration, delivers compassionate care, and supports the exceptional patient experience,” says ASORN President Debbie Ehlers, MSN, BSN, R.N.
Haskell has worked as an eye surgery nurse for 25 years. Capitol City Surgery Center Administrator Kim Russell says she has a great rapport with surgeons—many of whom ask specifically to work with her because of her vast knowledge of the specialty.
Russell added that Haskell has tremendous patience and understanding with her patients.
“No one wants to have eye surgery—it’s very scary and most patients have some level of agitation or stress. Nancy presents a calm demeanor, a soothing voice and provides the utmost assurance to the people she cares for.”
In addition to being honored with this award, Haskell was also elected president of ASORN for 2019.
