An Update for CalPERS members in the Bay Area with Blue Shield Access+ HMO
CalPERS recently sent a letter to certain members in the Bay Area with Blue Shield Access+ HMO that this plan is no longer available as an option as of Jan. 1, 2019. If affected members do not actively select a new plan during the 2018 open enrollment period, Sept. 10 through Oct. 5, CalPERS will automatically enroll them in a Health Net product that does not include the Sutter Health network.
Unfortunately, this impacts thousands of Northern Californians who have an established and trusted relationship with their Sutter doctors. These CalPERS members in the Bay Area with Blue Shield Access+ HMO may continue seeing Sutter providers through Dec. 31, 2018. However, to keep their Sutter doctors and continue accessing the Sutter Health network, they must actively enroll for coverage in one of the following participating health plans by Oct. 5, 2018:
• State employees: UnitedHealthcare Signature Value Alliance
HMO, and Anthem Blue Cross Traditional HMO, PERSCare PPO, or PERS Choice PPO
• Agency employees: Anthem Blue Cross Traditional HMO, PERSCare PPO, or PERS Choice PPO
We’re in the process of notifying impacted patients and the steps they need to take to keep their Sutter providers. If patients have questions they may call the Sutter Health Patient Services Center at 844-987-6067, available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They may also visit sutteremployer.org/calpers and navigate to the Contact Us page to complete an online form for someone from the Sutter Employer Program to reach out to them directly.
