Novato Community Hospital chaplains perform a variety of duties to serve our patients, families, and staff. Chaplains support the hospital’s philosophy of total care by meeting the spiritual and, at times, the emotional needs of patients and families as they relate to the patient’s medical condition. Chaplains provide initial spiritual screening and assessment, education concerning religious/cultural beliefs, and other services.
Chaplains may be called for:
- Encouragement and hope
- Companionship and friendship
- The comfort of prayer
- Talking about the struggles of life
- Solace through sacred writings
- Making important decisions
- Help in facing ethical dilemmas
- Performing rituals
- Times of rejoicing and thanksgiving for life
