Medicare's Annual Election Period

Medicare’s Annual Election Period runs October 15 – December 7.

Find a Medicare Advantage plan

Sutter Health has partnered with eHealth to help you compare your Medicare Advantage coverage options.

Find the Right Plan for You

Choose Medicare Advantage

Consider an all-in-one Medicare Advantage plan during Medicare’s Annual Election Period (also known as Medicare’s Open Enrollment), October 15 – December 7. This may be the only opportunity you have each year to change your Medicare health or prescription drug coverage, if you decide to.

Medicare Advantage plans help simplify the complexity around Medicare, and may offer more comprehensive and cost-effective benefits–including Part A hospital insurance, Part B medical insurance, and Part D prescription drug benefits. Some also include dental and vision care.

Having the right health insurance coverage is important to staying healthy.

Medicare Advantage patients:

  • Are more likely to receive preventive care
  • Are half as likely to go to the emergency room
  • Are less likely to be admitted to the hospital
  • Go home from the hospital one day earlier
  • Are less likely to be readmitted to hospital after discharge*

Medicare Advantage may offer:

  • Low or no co-pays for office visits
  • Limited annual out-of-pocket costs
  • Prescription drug coverage for most plans
  • Preventive services, including annual physicals
  • Dental and vision care
  • X-ray and lab services
  • Hospitalization coverage
  • Emergency room and urgent care nationwide

Special Needs Plans

Millions of Americans are eligible for Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help, but not yet enrolled. These programs help qualifying patients with limited income and resources pay Medicare’s cost-sharing expenses, including premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.

If you would like more information about Medicare's Extra Help programs or need help determining whether you are eligible, complete our secure form to have a licensed insurance broker contact you. Brokers are available in person, by telephone or virtually.

It’s Not too Early for a Medicare Plan Checkup

Prior to Medicare’s Annual Election Period is a great time to review your coverage options. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Does my current coverage still meet my healthcare and prescription drug needs?
  2. Am I paying too much?
  3. Have I compared plans side-by-side to see if I can save on prescription drug and out-of-pocket costs?
  4. Have I reviewed my Medicare Annual Notice of Change?
  5. Will my coverage still include access to my Sutter Health-affiliated doctor?
  6. Will my Medicare plan offer the same coverage at the same cost next year?
