Injuries, inherited conditions and brain diseases can affect how people feel and act, and how they process information. Neuropsychology, a specialty within psychology, focuses on the interaction of brain function and behavior. Neuropsychologists evaluate learning, memory, language, problem-solving, mood, personality and function to help reach a diagnosis and plan an effective treatment.
Neuropsychological assessment can benefit people with conditions that include concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia, diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, brain tumors and more.
Neuropsychological Evaluation
Most neuropsychological evaluations include a thorough medical records review, clinical interview, neurobehavioral screen, and cognitive, emotional and functional assessments. Depending on the nature and type, a neuropsychological evaluation can take two to four sessions, each lasting two to three hours. You’ll receive your evaluation results through a feedback session with you and your care team (family and caregivers).
Services and Treatments
Your neuropsychologist works collaboratively with you, your support team and your medical care team to create a multidisciplinary, person-centered treatment plan. This includes evaluating your family member or caregiver’s adjustment to your health issues.
