Complementary therapies, when used along with medical therapies, may help you manage cancer symptoms, minimize negative effects of treatments and improve quality of life for you, your family and your support team. Memorial Medical Center’s Complementary Therapy Program provides these options for your physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
- Art – Unlock elusive emotions and ideas and bring clarity to your life experiences by expressing yourself through art. No previous art experience needed.
- Photography – This class teaches the basic skills for photographing people, places and events and gives you the chance to feel the joy of telling a story with pictures.
- Writing – Experience the emotional and health benefits and attain a sense of clarity and control by writing your personal story.
Art, photography and writing programs are made possible by a grant from Memorial Medical Center to the Central California Art Association. For more information or to register for a class, please call the Central California Art Association at (209) 535-2226.
- Cycling – This group offers adult cancer survivors and supporters a regular, fun activity for physical, emotional and social benefits. You’ll be able to connect with others and improve your current fitness level.
- Gardening – Enrich your life with gardening events and classes throughout the year. From caring for a garden to exploring new projects, this club offers something for everyone who enjoys plants.
- Movement – Stretching and strengthening while moving to music can help you maintain physical and emotional health. Please wear comfortable clothing to this class, designed to support everyone at current levels of physical activity. Bring a water bottle and, if possible, a yoga mat.
- Music – Whether you’re a music lover or a music maker, you’ll feel at home listening to, exploring and creating music with others. You’ll experience the comfort, excitement, emotion and energy music brings. We even have ukuleles for you to try, thanks to generous community donations.
- Strength and Fitness – This program is for adults who have finished or nearly completed cancer treatment. You will progressively regain strength, flexibility and endurance in a friendly atmosphere that improves your ability to perform activities of daily living.
- Team Challenge – This Memorial Medical Center–sponsored walking, running and cycling group was formed by caring community members who wanted to help support cancer survivors. Runners, walkers and cyclists of all abilities and fitness goals participate at their own pace and enjoy connecting with others to give and receive support. You can get special training for walking around the track, down a trail or joining a 5K, 10K, half-marathon or full-marathon event. Cyclists can join group rides supported by leaders who will assist your goals. Meeting locations vary throughout the year. For registration, including information about fees, contact Memorial Medical Center’s Cancer Services at (209) 569-7789.
