## Why choose Sutter?

Your symptoms might be interrupting your day. You might be weighing hormone therapy and want straight answers about what's safe. Or you might be looking ahead — thinking about your bones, your heart, your breast health. From managing symptoms today to protecting your long-term health, you'll have a whole team in your corner, dedicated to helping you live well.

Our specialized clinicians are here to help, including OB/Gyns, endocrinologists, primary care doctors, nurse practitioners and physician associates. Many are Menopause Society Certified Practitioners (MSCPs), with advanced training in menopause care and the latest evidence-based treatments. It starts with a 30-minute virtual consultation. Your clinician will take the time to listen, learn about your experience and understand what matters to you. Together you'll build a personalized plan tailored to your symptoms, goals and preferences. Whether that includes hormone therapy, nonhormonal options, lifestyle strategies or a mix of approaches, we'll help you find a path that feels right for you.

You’ll also be connected to a full range of in-person specialty care if needed, including gynecology, endocrinology, cardiology, behavioral health, lab testing and imaging. Wherever your menopause journey leads you, your care remains connected, coordinated and centered around you.

## Frequently asked questions

**Who is the Sutter Comprehensive Menopause Program for?**

Our program is for people experiencing symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause who want evidence-based care — whether you're considering hormone therapy, looking for nonhormonal options, or want guidance on managing symptoms and protecting your long-term health. Think of it as a specialized next step, not a replacement for your regular doctor.

**How do I get started and schedule my appointment?**

Talk with your primary care doctor or OB/Gyn about a referral. New and existing patients can also request an appointment directly by calling [800-4SUTTER](tel:+1800478837). Once we receive your referral, our team helps you schedule your first virtual consultation — often within a week or two. If you've already received a referral and need to schedule or reschedule, please call [888-834-1788](tel:+18888341788).

**Do I need testing to diagnose menopause?**

Usually, no. For most people over 45, perimenopause and menopause can be identified based on age, symptoms and changes in your periods. Hormone levels fluctuate widely during perimenopause, so blood tests often aren't helpful. Testing may be recommended in certain situations — like when symptoms start at a younger age or another condition might be causing the changes. Your clinician can help figure out what's going on.

**Who will I see and how do I prepare for my visit?**

You'll be seen by one of our menopause care clinicians — physicians specializing in OB/Gyn, internal medicine, family medicine and endocrinology, plus nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Many are Menopause Society Certified Practitioners (MSCPs), with advanced training in evidence-based menopause care. To prepare, watch the Menopause 101 educational video under Appointment Details in [My Health Online (MHO)](https://myhealthonline.sutterhealth.org/mho/Authentication/Login). A few days before your visit, you'll also get access to a menopause questionnaire through EZ Arrival (eCheck-in). Please complete it before your appointment. These steps help your clinician understand your needs and make your first visit as productive as possible.

**What happens during my visit?**

Your first visit is virtual — 30 minutes with a clinician who specializes in menopause care. They review your symptoms, your medical history and what matters to you. Then you build a care plan together. It's your time — ask questions, talk through options, figure out what fits your life. If you need an in-person exam, lab testing, imaging or other evaluation, your clinician helps coordinate that and gets you scheduled as soon as possible.

**What treatments are available, and is hormone therapy safe?**

Your plan may include hormone therapy, nonhormonal medications, vaginal estrogen, lifestyle strategies or other evidence-based treatments, tailored to your symptoms, preferences and goals. If you need testing, imaging or specialty care, you're connected to a full range of coordinated resources. For most people, hormone therapy is a safe and well-studied option. The risks depend on your age, your health history and the type and dose you use so it's not a one-size-fits-all decision. Your clinician walks you through the evidence, weighs the benefits and risks for your situation and helps you decide what's right for you. If hormone therapy isn't a fit, there are nonhormonal options available as well.

**Do I need to leave my current doctor?**

No, and we encourage you to check with your primary care doctor or OB/Gyn first. They may be able to handle your menopause care directly. If they don't offer specialized menopause care, that's where the program comes in. Your program clinician works in partnership with your existing providers and coordinates your care. You keep your routine care with your regular doctor.

**Will my insurance cover my visit?**

Coverage varies by plan. Contact your insurance provider to confirm your benefits, or reach out to us and we'll help you understand what's covered.
